2016 Data on Lawsuits Over the Ownership and Infringement of Copyrights
From 2007 to 2011, the number of disputes over the ownership and infringement of copyrights fluctuated between 5,000 and 10,000. In 2012, however, that number skyrocketed to over 10,000, and it increased annually thereafter. The growth between 2013 and 2014 amounted to 50%, and increases continue.

Ranked in descending order, the courts that accepted the greatest number of cases were located in Zhejiang, Hubei, Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shandong, Chongqing, Anhui, Shanghai and Hunan. Most of these cases were disputes concerning infringement of the right of disseminating a work through information networks, infringement of the right to display works and ownership of copyrights, which together accounted for around half of all disputes.
